Countdown to Maelstrom! So, I have many things still to make :S The list: *Finish Jacket*Trousers to go with jacket *Green evening gown *Red day outfit: Coat, Skirt *Wedding dress for another player It's a lot to do in six days, but I reckon I can manage. The Jacket is done as of this evening, and the green gown in getting there - underskirt is made, lining for the bodice is cut out and the boning tape is sewn in place, just need to cut out the silk for the bodice and overskirt and sew it all together, and attach ribbon. Then on with everything else :S I shall try to update here to keep myself enthused and also as a break from sewing! Tags: costume, maelstrom

Well, today my patterns came through for the bustle, skirt and polonaise. On first glance, the bustle looks slightly simpler than I had first thought it would be, the polonaise about as complicated as I expected (mummy, I'm lost!) and the skirt pretty much as simple as all the other huge massive skirts (tm) that I make. Ordered steel and boning for the bustle (the polonaise patter is really helpful, and doesn't give lengths for th boning, just tells you how many you need >.<) So for the polonaise i'll just use the plastic stuff from our local shop, and measure out what I need when I need it. I also hand washed my big dresses today, as the hems were looking a little muddy, and frankly, they were smelling a little stale. I know my mum will go mental when she gets in, after her big lecture on how you can't wash these things, only sponge them... but they look alright to me :D I'll keep people updated on the dress-making (and if it goes hillariously wrong!) and post pictures and links when I can be more arsed. EDIT: Turns out, I can be arsed! OK, I decided to go with the Laughing Moon Mercantile Bustle, because frankly, it looks way way cooler than the Truly Victorian one. http://www.farthingales.on.ca/laughing_moon_112.php <--the pattern, plus photos of "View C" made up, which is the one I'm planning on making :) The Polonaise and Grand Parlor skirt are both Truly Victorian patterns, and can be seen in the following links: http://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/202.html <-- skirt pattern, plus photos http://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/410.html <-- Polonaise, plus photos. Sadly, these are all american sites (awww) but, are available from an english website! http://www.venacavadesign.co.uk/ <-- Vena Cava sell not only the patterns, but practically everything you need to make the dresses! Certainly, their steel seems very reasonably priced and they offer lots of advice on the website :) Tags: bustle, dressfroth, maelstrom

Just a piece of fic I've been promising Marina for a few days, and have been rubbish and not posted. FOIP! MASSIVE FOIP!!!! Etc. Also, sorry there's no cut, stupid Mac doesn't have a "cut" button etc, gah argh. Also, FOIP! ------------------------------- She keeps saying that word, and I kept studiously ignoring it, until now. It's not that I'm not open to the suggestion, I just don't want to imagine the possibilities. I can't let myself get drawn down that path of thought. It... It's too dangerous, I would never sleep easy in my bed again unless I knew they were safe. For a moment I think about the safeguards, the protections, everything I could do. It wouldn't be enough. Not with the path I tread. My business is death, my job is murder I take a drag from the cigarette, and I flick my eyes to the lady. She is not watching me, she is admiring my fine Rukhi shawl. She can wait for my responce. Broken things never quite work the same again, no matter how you bandage them. Maybe she isn't suggesting that, but it is certainly what I think she means. I am no great healer, as I explained. I kill and break, I don't heal and fix. Maybe I'm the wrong wemic for this job. Maybe it's too late to back out now. Maybe I don't want to back out. I take another drag, consider for a moment whether I want to know the answer to the question, consider whether it'll change anything, then I ask it anyway.
